Build a gate with Homax

How To Build a Sag-Free Gate

Tools Required:

  • Saw
  • Screw Driver or Screw Gun
  • Drill
  • 1/8” Drill Bit


Note: Pre-Drill all screw holes with 1/8” drill bit

Key: Wood Screw (W), Pan Head Screw (P)

Step-by-Step Directions


Connect brackets to top & bottom rails:

1. Put (1) Wood Screw (W) into hole closest to the outside edge.

2. Put (1) Pan Head Screw (P) into each screw hole location. Use (2) Pan Head Screws (P) for each bracket to attach the top and bottom rails.

3. Repeat Steps 1 & 2 on the bottom rail.

Connect side rails:

1. Connect the right side rail to the right top and bottom brackets. Use (2) Pan Head Screws (P) for each bracket.

2. Repeat on left side rail.

Connect hinges to left side rail:

1. Attach the top hinge to the left side rail using 4 Wood Screws (W).

2. Repeat on the bottom hinge.

Connect Gate to Post:

1. Determine if the hinges will be on the left or right side of the gate opening and which way the gate will swing. Attach the fence boards accordingly.

2. Attach top hinge to 4 x 4 post with 4 Wood Screws (W).

3. Repeat on the bottom hinge.

Note: Square not required. Gate frame will automatically be squared when brackets are attached.
